Nova Scotia Provincial Teams

Team Nova Scotia

Each year, Canada Basketball hosts a Nationwide competition for provincial and territorial U15 and U17 teams. Nova Scotia has been proud to field teams for the last 25 years. The provincial teams are made up of athletes from across the province and include our highest-performing athletes. Tryouts take place each year to select a team for each Summer. Our Provincial Teams are formed and trained through the Provincial Team Program (PTP).

The PTP program is built on 5 pillars that are the foundation of our program: Accountability, Inclusion, Integrity, Respect and Trust. For a full description of the BNS PTP Pillars, please click here.

Provincial team tryout registration is now OPEN and closes April 28th, 2024.

U16 Development Training Group

As we progress towards the 2025 Canada Summer Games and work to improve skill level across the board for our basketball programs throughout the province, the U16 Development Training Group (U16 DTG) will offer the opportunity to stay connected to the Provincial Team Program (PTP) through development sessions over the summer with BNS coaches.

The DTG will be composed of athletes who will be developing for a spot on the 2025 U17 Canada Games team. To learn more about the U16 Development Training Group (DTG), please click here.

Athlete Selection Process and Details

  1. May 4th is an open tryout that all athletes interested in making a provincial team, must attend. After this tryout, there will be a cut, and only a select group of athletes will be invited to the final invite only tryouts on May 11-12.
    1. If an athlete is unable to make the May 4th open tryouts, they are not eligible to attend the invite only tryouts (exceptions may be made at the discretion of Basketball Nova Scotia, based on previous identification through BNS programming or BNS identification of athletes through an independent observation).
    2. All athletes must register for tryouts.
    3. If an athlete needs to request an exemption because they cannot attend the May 4th open tryout they must complete an exemption form.
All athletes requesting an exemption will be notified by email whether they are granted an exemption or not.
      1. This form is meant for athletes who are unable to attend the Provincial Team open tryout on May 4th but want consideration for inclusion in the invitation-only tryout on May 11th and 12th.
  2. May 11th and 12th are the invite only tryouts, where athletes who were successful in the May 4th open tryout (or athletes who have been identified and contacted to attend), will attend for a final chance to be selected for a provincial team.
