2024 BNS Awards


Congratulations to our outstanding 2024 BNS Award recipients! This year, we celebrate the incredible athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and teams who have demonstrated excellence in basketball across the province. A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate and to our Awards Selection Committee for their thoughtful deliberation. We are excited for another year of growth and success in Nova Scotia basketball!


Award Winners:

  • Junior Female Athlete of the Year - Kaylah Duncan (Cole Harbour Rockets)

  • Junior Male Athlete of the Year - Elijah Mantley (Armbrae Academy)

  • Senior Female Athlete of the Year - Olivia Logan (Halifax West High School)

  • Senior Male Athlete of the Year - Ben Dale (Millwood High School)

  • Female Team of the Year - Preston Elite U15

  • Male Team of the Year - Community Y U16

  • Coach of the Year - Tariq Thomas

  • Official of the Year - Stephen Clow

  • Volunteer of the Year - Robin Veinotte

  • Frank Baldwin Award Recipient - Thane Smith


Award Categories

The BNS Awards are presented annually in six categories, recognizing individuals and teams for their achievements and contributions to the game.

Junior Female Athlete of the Year: This award recognizes a female player at the U10-U18 club level who has exhibited quality performance in the sport, representing their team, club, or program with respect, integrity, and excellence.

Junior Male Athlete of the Year: This award honors a male player at the U10-U18 club level who has demonstrated outstanding performance, representing their team, club, or program with respect, integrity, and excellence.

Senior Female Athlete of the Year: This award celebrates a senior female player at any level who has shown exceptional performance and embodies the values of respect, inclusion, quality, and integrity in the game of basketball.

Senior Male Athlete of the Year: This award is presented to a senior male player who has achieved excellence in performance and exemplifies the values of respect, inclusion, quality, and integrity.

Female Team of the Year: This award recognizes a Nova Scotia female team for their outstanding performance in their respective stage of development. The team demonstrates excellence, teamwork, and embodies BNS values of respect, inclusion, and integrity.

Male Team of the Year: Awarded to a Nova Scotia male team that has demonstrated outstanding performance in their respective stage of development, embodying the values of respect, inclusion, innovation, and quality in the sport.

Coach of the Year: The Coach of the Year award honors a certified or trained coach at the club, provincial, or national level. This coach exemplifies BNS values and is dedicated to further development in the performance stream of coaching, showing a commitment to player-centered, respectful, and innovative coaching practices.

Official of the Year: This award is presented to a referee who has made significant progress and achievements at the local, provincial, national, or international level. The recipient embodies BNS values of respect, inclusion, quality, and integrity in officiating.

Volunteer of the Year: The Volunteer of the Year award recognizes an individual who has made a significant impact on the growth and development of basketball in their community. This person embodies BNS values and has contributed their time, energy, and passion to advancing the game.

Frank Baldwin Award: The Frank Baldwin Award is a special recognition presented to an individual who has made significant contributions to the development and promotion of basketball in Nova Scotia. This recipient exemplifies dedication, leadership, and a passion for the game.


Selection Process

The 2024 BNS Award winners were selected through a thorough and thoughtful nomination process. Nominations were submitted by individuals from across the province, and our Awards Selection Committee carefully reviewed each submission. The committee focused on recognizing those who not only excelled in their respective categories but also embodied the values of Basketball Nova Scotia: respect, inclusion, quality, and integrity.

We thank everyone who took the time to nominate individuals and teams for their achievements. 


We are proud to celebrate all of our 2024 award winners and look forward to a continued year of growth, achievement, and community in Nova Scotia basketball!
