Junior Performance Excellence Program (J-PEP)

Program Description:
The goal of our Junior Performance Excellence Program (J-PEP) is to identify higher potential athletes throughout the province at a younger age (U13 and U14) to have more influence over their development and progress.
- The program will consist of Identification Sessions in regions throughout the province, followed by weekly skill development sessions.
- The program’s top athletes in each region will come together for a centralized weekend complete with skill development and small-sided game competition.
- The program will take a Regional Training Center approach with programs in the following seven (7) BNS regions:
Cape Breton (Sydney), Central (Dartmouth & Halifax), Fundy (Truro), Highland (Antigonish), South Shore (Liverpool), and Valley (Wolfville).
Program Timelines:
Year 1: March - June 2025
- Identification sessions will take place in March-May 2025
- The program will begin in April or May 2025 (start date may differ per region), running for 6 weeks.
- Training consists of two (2) training sessions weekly with J-PEP coaches.
- Centralized weekend is currently slated for early June.
Year 2 onward: October 2025 - May 2026
- Fall program - September- October - 6-weeks.
- Winter program - January-February - 8-weeks
- Spring program - April-May - 6-week program.
- Training consists of two (2) training sessions weekly.
- Three (3) J-PEP Centralized Weekends for the top athletes in each region during each program period.
Targeted athlete age:
U13 and U14, female and male
Targeted athlete numbers:
Forty (40) athletes per region (20 female/20 male)
ID Sessions & Program Costs:
Program with two (2) ID Sessions: $25.00
Program with one (1) ID Session: $15.00
Each program session cost - $350.00 (includes program jersey and centralized weekend participation for those selected).
Program Leads and Coaches:
BNS has recruited Program Leads in each area to lead the program as well as program coaches to deliver weekly training. BNS is working closely with Canada Basketball on program curriculum.
